Bill Isaacs is a forward leader. I first met Bill when he served in the North Georgia Conference. From that time until now, I have been blessed by his vision and leadership. I have watched him lead on a state level and on a national level. He has a genuine humility and kindness that makes him someone that you just want to be around.
Bill is a constant student. He is always learning and seeking ways to help encourage the pastors that he serves. Yes, he is a mentor to scores of young leaders. I have watched him lead through very difficult situations and have been greatly impressed of his steady resolve and his passion for the Lord's work.
Bill loves the church, but his work in the church has not been ahead of his family. Bill and Kathy raised two incredible leaders in their two sons, Jeremy and Jason. Both of them love the Lord and are serving local churches.
Several years ago, I watched Bill lead his family through a cancer diagnosis and ultimately passing of his wife Kathy. For two years, Bill allowed us into his world and we watched how a "man of God" handles personal pain. In all of my years of ministry, I have never experienced a funeral service like the one Bill had for Kathy. He honored his wife. It was moving to see Bill grieve, but also come through the grief. In recent months, God brought a new partner, Shelly, into his life. Shelly went through a similar circumstance as she buried her husband after a battle with cancer. Together, they are a team that brings healing and hope to people they meet.
Why are these details important? Genuine leaders walk with a limp. Jacob, in the Old Testament, wrestled with the angel and God blessed him. But, with that blessing came a dislocated hip and thus he walked with a limp. Bill Isaacs walks with a limp and it is a constant reminder that God is his strength. I want to follow a leader like that.
I want to follow a leader who has passion for the next generation. I want to follow a leader tht understands where we have come from and where we need to go. Bill embodies the phrase: "Think Younger." Please consider Bill as you pray about the General Assembly Elections. We need Bill Isaacs leading our movement.
